Some jobs are inherently more dangerous than others. Worker visibility can help reduce the probability of accidents on the site, especially when it’s dark or extremely busy. Although the site manager can install powerful lighting, this may not be enough. Individual workers must wear a high visibility T-shirt or something similar to make their presence and exact location easier to track. Below are a few of the jobs that call for this measure:

Construction Work

The construction industry is known to be prone to accidents from falling objects, slips, collisions, and so on. If people on the worksite can see each other better, then they may be able to avoid some of these unfortunate incidents. This is especially important for operations that call for 24/7 work to beat a deadline. People are tired and visibility is poor. Hi-viz clothing should be mandatory along with safety harnesses, helmets, gloves, and other gear.

Utility Work

Workers in utility companies may need high visibility T-shirt as well since their jobs may take them to dark and maze-like industrial complexes. Most need to run around the clock for uninterrupted service to customers. Engineers and technicians need to be on-hand at any time of the day to fix issues and maintain the system. Working at night can be a challenge.

Fire Control

Firemen have to respond immediately when calls come. At the scene, they need to be easily distinguishable from the crowd so that they can move freely from the truck to the affected areas. Their uniforms have highly reflective coatings as well as fire resistant surfaces. Inside, they might still be wearing hi-viz shirts just in case.

Emergency Response

Emergency responders are similar to firemen in that they get called in at any time of the day, usually in a chaotic scene where medical attention is required. Everything they bring from the vehicle to their uniforms make them jump out in a crowd so that people can give them space to work. Visibility is also important when they need to scour through rubble after an earthquake or seek out survivors in a fire.

Airport Crew

The ground crew in an airport need to be visible so that they can move around without problems despite all of the vehicles coming and going. Some of these are carrying passengers while others are moving baggage or cargo. Some of the crew direct people’s movements so that they do not go to hazardous spots like the plane engines. Others guide planes as they land on the runway.
