Basketball is a sport that takes years to master. You need to be patient and diligent in order to make headways. Only the ridiculously rich have the luxury of space for a full court in their homes. However, nearly everyone could find a space for practice basketball goals. Set this up in your yard or any nearby open space that you have access to. Make sure that this is big enough to accommodate a full-size basketball so you can get a feel for the real thing. If you are aspiring to get better with your shots, then do sessions every day even if you can only spare a few minutes each time.
Improve Your Free Throws
If your backyard is spacious enough, then you might consider taking this chance to improve your free throw shots. This is one of the hardest ones to make because of the pressure on the shooter. All eyes are on you and there are no defenders. You are expected to get the shot but that pressure can be a burden that is too much to take. Many will miss the most crucial ones and blame themselves for their team’s loss. One way to prevent this is to take as many free throws as possible and develop the muscle memory you need to score automatically. You can just shut off your brain, go through the motions, and be confident about the shot.
Work on Your Jump Shots
Even if you only have a small space to work with, you should still be able to do some jump shots and lay-ups. Jump shots are tricky because you typically resort to this to shake off a defender. There will be a hand on your face that obstructs the goal and you may be jumping in an off-balance manner. Go through the scene in your head and imagine that you are in a crucial moment. Dribble around to evade the defense and jump up at just the right moment to beat the buzzer. Release your shot and get your rhythm going. Do it over and over again until you increase your accuracy.
Polish Your Dunks
Nothing could be more embarrassing than missing a dunk in front of other people. Since you will be practice basketball goals, make this count and polish your dunks so that you can be supremely confident about making them. You can boost your vertical jump, gauge your flight, and go off at the right distance from the rim. Make sure that the goal is sturdy because it will take a beating with this kind of shot. You can get creative once you master the basics.
