The 600 rule applies as follows: 600/focal length = shutter speed. It is therefore a trivial calculation to get the perfect exposure time based on the focal length you use that will allow an absolutely perfect photo of the stars.

Example: do you have a 24-70mm lens and are you shooting at 24mm to have the maximum wide-angle area possible? Do 600: 24 and you will get 25, which is the exposure time for your machine as shown in Wedding Cinematography.

There are differences in the case in which you use a full frame machine or APS-C (in the second case there is to analyze also the crop factor, that is the area that is cut by the different sensor, which, in the case of Nikon, Sony, Minolta and others is usually equal to 1.5x, while, as far as Canon is concerned, it is equal to 1.6x.

Light pollution will not be your only enemy in night photography: there is a very small, almost invisible, you can would say, satellite called Luna (do you know?) That at night creates a great source of light, beautiful to look at surely, however it can ruin your search and capture of stars (the more the moon is full and the stars are visible on your part).

There are several applications available for smartphones that can tell you the periods of the new moon, perfect for photographing the stars considering the fact that, finding the right time, the moon is practically not present and therefore will not disturb your Wedding Cinematography session.

Well, you understood how to start venturing into star photography, however, by experimenting with various techniques and exposure times, you might notice some blurring and imperfections in the elements of the sky, why? The reason is very simple: you are still, everything else is not, so why even if you think that the exposure times are minimal compared to the movement of the earth axis, it is not so. To achieve a Wedding Cinematography with the stars perfectly in focus and without annoying traits, it is necessary to apply what is called the rule of 600.

Premise: you can have always hated mathematics, you can still hate it and you can try to apply it as little as possible, but, if you can too, given the conditions, can easily apply this rule (calling it algorithm seems excessive and discouraging for those who think it), means that it is something simple and intuitive.

Speaking of Wedding Cinematography results that can be improved, don’t be discouraged if you don’t see results like the ones in this post during your first experiences, you can too have struggled to learn and above all to get the perfect equipment.
