A dressing table is known by different names around the world like a vanity table, a makeup table or a toilet table. However, irrespective of its name, it is used for the purpose of seeing one’s reflection in its mirror. Women love it as they use it when they apply makeup. These tables can also be used for storing things like make up items, perfumes and under garments. Dressing Tables in the UK generally form a part of bedrooms though they can be placed anywhere in the house.

These tables come in different shapes, sizes, materials and makes. Wood is a popular and preferred material for these tables. When buying a table for yourself, make sure it is sturdy enough to stay with you for at least a few years. Do get a matching stool as well. In most cases, the table set includes the stool but if it does not, you should spend a few more bucks to complete the set. Many of the manufacturers and sellers ship the table for free.

Are drawers necessary?

It is not necessary for dressing tables to have drawers, but women prefer having a few drawers on them. This helps them manage their belongings. Imagine a dressing table with all the trinkets and other items spread on it? This is why women prefer drawers. If you have a spacious bedroom, you can go for a big dressing table. However, the size has nothing to do with the table’s charm. Big size surely helps in storing more items in the table.

Readymade or customised!

You can buy readymade dressing tables from the market or even order them online. You can have them custom designed as well. The latter would obviously be costlier but it would give you a piece of furniture that meets your taste and requirement.

The mirror!

The mirror is the most important part of the dressing table. It should be of good quality so that it gives a proper reflection. It can be rectangular, square, oval, circular or of any other shape. Oval and rectangular shapes are more common in mirrors as they allow the viewer to see herself from head to toe. Some tables have a fixed glass while others have a flexible one. For compact spaces, you can go for a folding design. Such designs allow you to fold the mirror when it is not in use. You can even go for a dressing table without mirror and later buy a separate mirror to put on it. This way, you can use the mirror at other places as well.
