One of the most neglected elements of interior decor is lighting. The simple solution to lighting any room, seemingly from the beginning of time is a general ceiling mounted fixture and nothing more. Thankfully, people have become more informed on the subject, what with home improvement television shows, interior design magazines, and also with the Internet. Now, homeowners realize just how important various light sources are in every room. The experts suggest a minimum of six light sources in each room. In doing so, the user benefits from perfect lighting so that they may complete tasks, relax, read, watch TV, or what have you.

Each room benefits from a maximum amount of illumination sources, which for the most part, are not meant to be used all at once. Of course, they must all be connected to dimmer switches to provide the user the absolute control over how bright the room should be at a given time. Different rooms, however, call for different light sources. For example, the living room would greatly benefit from a form of pendant lighting at the center of the room, at least one table lamp, a floor lamp, a pair of wall sconces, and pot lights.

A similar lighting scheme to the living room is possible, and recommended, in a bedroom. Take some chances when decorating with the various pendant lighting fixtures to create an interesting decor scheme. For instance, choose a whimsical chandelier hung at the center of the room to provide general lighting. Instead of table lamps on the nightstands, opt for a pair of pendant lighting fixtures that hang above them to allow for more usable area on the nightstands.

In the kitchen, use pot lights or track lights to get the most illumination possible in the room that requires it for meal preparation and such. Install under-cabinet lights that look great and also emit great light to simplify cooking and pendant lighting over an island, a peninsula, or a table. In the bathroom, good light is a necessity, since this is the space in which we do most of our grooming, like applying makeup or shaving, for example. As such, install wall sconces on either side of the vanity mirror, track or pot lights on the ceiling, and a pendant light to add more style to the space.

The right light can alter a space light nothing else, and when connected to dimmer switches, the look can change from one night to the next. As consumers catch on to the importance of lighting, more options are becoming available to them.
