There are many vendors of outboard motors in every city. This means that anyone who wishes to purchase an outboard motor for their boat or dinghy can easily find a suitable motor for their needs. You can easily find a couple of vendors if you take time to carry out the necessary research. Ideally, you should create a list of not less than a dozen vendors. From there, your job will just be limited to narrowing down the search by eliminating motors and vendors that do not meet your requirements.
Obviously, you must consider a number of key factors prior to making a decision. These include:
i) Engine Capacity
Before you can make any decision, you have to check the engine capacities of the outboard engines on your list. This is necessary because you don’t want to install a motor that is too big for your boat or dinghy. Similarly, you do not want to buy a motor that is not able to effectively propel your boat due to its small size. Therefore, the engine capacity and power output of the shortlisted motors must be checked before a decision can be made.
ii) Pricing
All the outboard motors on your list will come a different prices. After all, different vendors usually quote different prices for their products. Therefore, you have to obtain these prices and compare them to find the most affordable outboard motor for your needs. The beauty of buying used outboard motors for sale is that their prices are never fixed, so there is always room for negotiations. This means you only need to shop around to find the right motor for your financial needs.
iii) Operating Condition
The main con of buying a used motor is the fact that the motor may not be in a good condition. Therefore, you will need to have the outboards inspected before you decide to buy it. Consider hiring a mechanic to accompany you to the point of purchase. The mechanic will inspect the motor visually and do a test run to assess the condition of the motor. If the motor is in a good condition, the mechanic will advice you to buy it at a given price. If not, they’ll advise you to avoid that motor.
Please note that there are also used outboard motors for sale out there. If you are environmentally conscious, therefore, you should consider installing an electric outboard on your boat or dinghy.
