The Statue Of Liberty Print

The Statue of Liberty has been a welcoming symbol of Liberty located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor since 1886. It was a gift to the United States of America from the French. The French Sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi from Comar, Alsace designed it and Gustave Eiffel built its metal framework. President Grover Cleveland dedicated the 305 feet and 1 inch copper statue in a ticker tape parade on that October 28th. The Statue of Liberty was New York’s tallest structure until the Empire State Building was erected in 1931.

The statue is of the Roman goddess, Liberta. She represents freedom. This was a gift from French abolitionists to mark the end of slavery in America. On a tablet on which the statue stands are the words from the words from the Emma Lazarus poem, “The New Colossus”, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…”

Because of this statue’s great popularity, there have been many reproductions of its beauty. There are postcards, photos, and prints made by the thousands to commemorate its majesty. The statue of liberty print is available from every type of artist including photographers, painters, and those who draw.

When the print is of a color photograph, all its brilliant colors are captured as are the magnificent shades of blue and white in the sky as the statue’s full height is captured. Sometimes the print will also show parts of Liberty Island and the New York Harbor, so the viewer can get a glimpse of the full effect of the towering statue up close. At other times, the background offers a beautiful view of ‘s skyscape as it looms behind and beside the statue.

At all times, the beauty of the tarnished green copper of the statues body stands tall and glorious over the harbor. In 1984, the original torch was altered from a flame to an electric light. These floodlights must be changed by National Park Personnel. They must climb a 40-foot ladder after ascending the spiral staircase to change the floodlights.

Most prints can capture an image of a light in the torch, but it’s rarely as glorious as witnessing the real thing. Still, a print is a welcomed keepsake in lieu of going away empty handed after seeing the Statue of Liberty in real life. A Statue of Liberty Print will always take you back to the day you visited Liberty Island and saw America’s great gift from France after the U.S. finally granted thousands of their citizens, their God given freedom.
