- 1 – SENSORY MATS:
One of the best toys for kids with autism is a series of Autism Toys.
Coming in different sizes and utilizes different textures for maximum effect when they use there hand and or feet to feel and memorize or associate each texture.
A very good exercise to try with the kids is to ask them to explain or describe the texture with their eyes closed. ( do not use a blindfold, they feel very uncomfortable with it to the point of fear )
- 2 – CHEW TOYS:
Not that we think you kid is a pet because of the chew toy, but most parents use these types of toys for babies anyway when they are teething but it has been proven using it on kids of all ages with autism can be good as well.
Made from a non-poisonous silicone and can come in the form of jewelry (worn on the wrist or around the neck like a necklace) and also handheld types in different sizes, textures, and shapes.
The textures vary from ridges, dots, and or even patterns which provides not only sensory stimulation but the kids biting and chewing skills as well.
- 3 – SLIME, PUTTY, AND OR SAND:
One of the best toys or objects to use to develop and enhance your child’s finer motor skills while playing is Slime, Putty, and or Sand.
Kids can use each object on its own or a combination of the three for different sensations and because. they also come in different bright colors it also appeals to the visual sensory abilities
- 4 – PIN ART:
The Pin Artboard is a great toy to be used by both kids and teens with autism.
Using steel pins as a feature it will allow your child to look at imprints made on the board using these pins.
Using their hands to make impressions as well, will allow them to play with what is known as a ” NO-MESS SENSORY TOY “
