Stabilised chlorine or “stabilizer” is a new and revolutionary water treatment system that uses the power of pure stabilized chlorine granules to keep your pool sparkling clean and germ-free. The stabilizer has no negative effect on water balance and quality as it does not require oxidizers such as cyanuric acid (conditioner) to remain active in the swimming pool water. This breakthrough technology combines calcium hypochlorite with pure sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), creating a residual chlorinating product activated by natural sunlight or UV light. The stabilization process stabilizes the chlorine, removing the need for conditioners and boosters, so you can use a smaller amount of chlorine.
Water scientists have been working on the stabilizing process for years, but it wasn’t until 1994 that a company called Triton successfully managed to produce a stabilised chlorine granule that the pool owner could use. In early 1995 Triton introduced its first commercial stabiliser products under the brand name “Stabilised Chlorine” to the Australasian market. They were an overnight success with pool owners, being welcomed as being easier to use than traditional chlorine shock treatments and still giving sparkling clean results. Since then, Stabilised Chlorine has won numerous international awards for innovation and is now available worldwide.
Stabilised chlorine granules are a patented and stabilising process that maintains its residual chlorine content for three months, requiring only one application per swimming season. Before the development of stabilized chlorine, pool owners were forced to use traditional shock treatments (with high doses of sodium hypochlorite) as often as once a week in some areas. Today with the addition of Stabilised Chlorine products — Dichlor and Trichlor — to your pool’s sanitation system, you can put an end to weekly shocking and enjoy unprecedented peace of mind knowing that your water is protected and remains germ-free all year round.
Using stabilised chlorine ensures your pool water will never be over-chlorinated. One of the most harmful aspects to a pool or spa’s sanitization is the addition of too much chlorine — shock treatments — which causes free available chlorine levels in excess of 1.0 ppm (parts per million) and can result in eye irritation, bleached hair, and a gritty feeling on the skin as well as damage to equipment such as pumps, filters, and heaters. Stabilised Chlorine products have been tested to ensure that they do not create this condition, so you know you are protected from “over chlorination” every time you use them.
