It is not that hard to walk like a catwalk model, but as an art, you need to perfect it. By simply practicing some simple steps, you will be halfway there. Learn techniques like walking in heels keeping your feet one foot in front of the other, keeping your facial expression focused and poised, and synchronizing your personality with your strut with confidence and rhythm in these ease to understand catwalk lessons.
Part 1: Setting your facial expression
– Set your chin facing slightly down
You should learn to walk as if there is an invisible string attached at the to of your head holding you up. This will help you not hang or droop your face. This is essential because the audience will be below you. Keeping your chin facing slightly down will let them see more of your face. An advantage of doing this is it will help lend you a little bit of attitude and add more angle to your face.
– Don’t smile
Ensure that your mouth is always closed in a natural position. This is because you will probably be marketing the clothes you are wearing and smiling will distract the audience from the clothes. Practice doing this in front of a mirror to see how it looks and feels when you close your mouth in a natural position.
– Keep your eyes focused on something infront of you
Keep your eyes fixed on a point infront of you and do not look around. This will help pur more emphasis on your eyes and eyebrows. Also look alert and at attention. When doing this while doing the catwalk, be careful not to trip.
Part 2: Walking amd posture
– Stand up straight
Imagine that there is an invinsible string attached to your spine to the top of your head holding you up. Pull your shoulders slightly back and stand up as straight as you possibly can. This is the posture that will make the audience see you as a model even if you do not have the height of one. Remember not to be stiff while doing this in order to stay tall. Practice doing this in front of a mirror.
– Place one foot in front of the other and walk with long strides
You can learn how to do this by using a little bit of your imagination and more of practice. Imagine that you are walking on a rope. The only way you can successfully do this is keeping one foot in front of the other as you walk. This will allow your hips to swing in the classic model way, that is, from side to side. For male models, your foot doesn’t have to be directly in front of the other. Just walk more naturally with your feet placed more side to side.
– Relax your arms and allow them to hang at your side
– Practice walking with your heels on
