Finding affordable legal services is possible if you know what you’re looking for or have a referral. Here are some tips that will help:

1 – Consider the important things in the quality of services you want to obtain. If you are looking for assistance with a family law matter, is it more important for you to find an attorney who has been practicing in your particular state for years or one who graduated from a prestigious school? The answer should be obvious. Of course, the best attorney in the world won’t assist you if they are not licensed in your state.

The most important thing is that you find an attorney who has the experience and knowledge in the type of case you have, no matter how long it took them to acquire said skills. For example, if somebody graduated law school one year ago but has four years’ experience dealing with employment law, they are more likely to resolve your case faster and cheaper than somebody who has been practicing for twenty years but deals with real estate litigation.

2 – If you cannot afford an attorney, consider using non-profit legal aid services. You can find one by contacting the bar association in your state or visiting the Bar Association’s website.

3 – Look for attorneys in your area who affordable legal services. Ask friends, relatives, and co-workers if they can recommend somebody to you, especially in cases where you need assistance in drafting legal documents, doing research, or filing papers with the court. You never know which one of your acquaintances is currently needing the service you are looking for.

If they cannot recommend somebody to you, perhaps they can contact you with an attorney who offers free legal services during your initial consultation or when negotiating a settlement.

4 – Once you’ve contacted the attorneys who fit your criteria, meet with them one-on-one. During the first meeting, ask them about their fees and how they are calculated. Also, discuss with them their payment options which can include monthly installments or a contingency plan.

For example, you pay your attorney based on the amount of money you receive from the case, such as in personal injury cases where the attorney takes a percentage (usually about 33%) of whatever settlement you receive. Other attorneys will charge a flat rate negotiated between the two parties at the time of your initial consultation. There are also contingency fees in personal injury cases where the attorney charges a percentage only when they win or settle your case.

5 – The most important thing to remember is that if an attorney is not currently taking new clients, they are probably in high demand. It’s in their best interest to have potential clients believe that they are so good at what they do that nobody else wants them.
This means you should always call more than one attorney before making your decision.
