Fiberglass Shower Paint For Colorful Bathroom

Fiberglass shower often surrounds decay with time, and these can leave yellow shades after some years. The yellow traces leave the showering place, and the overall look of the bathroom unappealing. However, replacing the entire shower is usually expensive. One can make the bathroom more colorful by painting the fiberglass of the showering place instead of replacing the full bath. That’s why fiberglass shower paint is an essential factor for keeping shower places attractive and bright. Resurfacing or recoloring showers is indeed cost-effective. Before coloring the fiberglass shower, it’s vital to know about the process and the types of colors for fiberglass showers.

Suitable Paints for Fiberglass Shower

Enamel paint is ideal for fiberglass shower painting. This paint is waterproof, and it stands up well against moisture. Enamel paint has different types of colors, so you can easily match your bathroom décor. This paint makes your gross old bathroom look like a new shiny one. Another option for a fiberglass shower is the acrylic paint, though it’s not as suitable as the enamel paint. Acrylic paint doesn’t blister and crack so easily.

Initial Painting Procedure

Firstly, you have to wash the entire surface of the fiberglass. You can use a high-quality surface cleaner and a rag for cleaning any built-up scum of soap or any residue. Then, you have to cover the walls and floor around the shower. You can use sheets of plastic held in place using masking tape. It’s better to put on a mask to keep the lungs safe from the dust. Next, you have to prepare the surface for the primer. You have to sand the entire fiberglass’s entire surface using a 100 grit sandpaper and a palm sander. Then, you have to sand the fiberglass again to refine the surface. This time, you have to use a 200 grit sandpaper. Next, you have to wash the fiberglass using acetone and a rag for cleaning the sanding dust. You have to protect the faucets, drains, and knobs by applying additional masking tape over them.

Applying Primer and Enamel Paint

You have to apply a spray primer coat and dry it. Then you have to sand it with a 300 grit sandpaper. After that, you have to remove the sand dust. You have to apply a second primer coat similarly. Then, you have to apply 2 or 3 coats of enamel paint to the fiberglass. The color takes around 24 hours to dry.

Fiberglass shower paint is a cost-effective way of keeping your bathroom colorful. Whenever your shower becomes old, and the color becomes faded, don’t delay and look for the suitable options for coloring your fiberglass shower.
