Tablets boomed after Apple threw its hat in the segment and came up with the iPad. It became the golden standard which competitors began to emulate. Many have turned to the device as their second computer — one that is much more portable and enjoyable to use than their regular laptops. Unlike smartphones, these have larger screens that are more suited for media consumption and immersive gaming. They also have touch capability that makes control easier and fun applications possible. However, they are not immune to problems just like any other electronic device. Below are some of the most common issues that require iPad repairs:

Broken Screen

One side of the device is made of glass. While this is hardened glass of a high quality, it can still break if the impact has sufficient force. A person may be walking while reading something on the tablet before he dropped it on the ground. This may be a height of a meter or more. Whether it survives or not will also depend on the material it came into contact with. Carpet and grass are quite forgiving. Hardwood and concrete are not. Covering the iPad with a soft shell can help avoid accidental damage but it can’t eliminate the possibility. A broken screen will have to be replaced.

Water Damage

Aside from hard impact, another thing that can lead to trouble is contact with water. Tablets are mostly sealed around the edges so it should not be that much of a problem unless users drop them in pools or get them drenched in a rain. After all, they still have ports that serve as openings for moisture. If water gets into these then they can reach the inner circuits and wreak havoc. It is advised to immediately turn off the unit and place them in highly absorbent material like cotton or rice for days. If this does not work, then they should be turned over to professional technicians.

Charging Issues

Since these are designed to be portable, they cannot be plugged into an outlet all day. They have internal battery packs that are designed to last for many hours. Students can thus take them to their classes for note-taking without worrying about plugging into outlets. They can also bring power banks to add juice when the battery runs low. The problem is that batteries tend to degrade over time. They might hold less charge and run out quicker than they used to. They might even refuse to charge at all.
