The future is here, and it’s arrived through an augmented reality shopping experience. Stores have now decided to take advantage of how far technology has come and started implementing Augmented Reality (AR) as a way to experience their stores and the products they have to offer. This new initiative has drastically enhanced the whole journey of shopping by allowing customers to browse and experience a retailer’s complete inventory through virtual reality.
As vastly different as an augmented reality shopping experience might be from physically walking into a store, there are some minor quality of life improvements that need to be highlighted. The first of which is in-store navigation. An app helps consumers browse stores based on what they’re looking to purchase. You can plan out your shopping list and, with the guidance of the app, you’ll be shown the quickest path to reach what you need and provide you with full product descriptions.
Next up is the test drive factor. Some brands have taken it a step beyond simply browsing through their merchandise via the oculus but also allow consumers to try it on. A leading high-end clothing brand has developed an app that allows you to merely look at where the merchandise should fit on your body and it will appear. For example, if you’re looking to try on some new kicks, you can simply pick what you like, look down at your feet and the shoes will appear. If you’re indecisive about what you want, you can just swipe to the next pair until you find the right look. As an added feature, they’ve even included some music and impressive graphics to make the experience all the more fun.
Building on this feature, other brands have taken it a step further still and introduced something called “magic mirrors.” These are interactive mirrors that are currently still exclusive to some of the more upmarket brands but allow users to mix and match whole sets of outfits without actually ever having to change their clothes physically. By simply standing in front of one of these “magic mirrors,” you can work out complete outfits, from tops to bottoms, shoes to accessories, and you can style yourself in an entire outfit. If you’re still uncertain, you can take a screenshot, share it on social media or send it to a friend and get a second opinion.
With all the life improvements that technology has made in modern life, this has got to be one of the most impressive enhancements so far.
