If you have a very niche demographic, then radio marketing may not be the best strategy. This is because radio will bring in a large and varied demographic. The only real common denominator in this is that the people are all in the same metropolitan area. Even this though can pose a problem for a brick and mortar store in a large radio area where it may not be feasible to drive an hour or two to the store.

What is Your Marketing Strategy?

Another thing to consider when deciding whether to do radio promotions is what your marketing strategy is. Are you combining this with online marketing and also commercials or another form of marketing? Marketing plans that use multiple venues have the best results as they are better able to target the demographic. While these may be more expensive, it is often worth it in the return on investment the business will get from it.

Also, with your marketing strategy you want to consider what language you will use when advertising on the radio. If the message is just check the store out, this may not be as effective as an advertisement that has a specific call to action. A great example of this is booking an appointment for 10% off. The call to action should tell people to do a certain action and why this will benefit them.

How Much Do you Want to Spend?

Even if your business is the perfect business for radio promotions, having just one ad on the radio will not be enough to boost your business, at least to any tangible amount. This is why you need to have frequent radio ads, played during peak listening hours. However, this does come at a price. Radio ads can be expensive, especially if they are played repetitively. This is why it is important to make sure if this is the way you are going to go that you have the appropriate budget or it will not be an effective marketing tool for your business.
