North Carolina NC Teacher Associations operates solely as a nonprofit professional growth and advocacy group. Most of its budget promotes higher education in education reform and common core standards across the state. Its mission is “to serve the people of North Carolina through professional leadership and effective policymaking.
NC teacher associations provide national leadership in education and develop policies that affect the teaching profession in all corners of the state. These policies include promoting and advancing professional teachers; training teachers in useful practices and developments in the classroom; and reforms that improve school effectiveness through effective practices.
In North Carolina, like many states, the NC teacher union is quite powerful. While it does not have as much clout as the teachers’ unions in other states, its power still wields influence over the policies and actions of many school boards and county administrators.
Another important characteristic of the North Carolina Teachers Association is that it promotes unity within the state. The union does not get involved in inter-union politics or fight over political issues with neighboring school districts. Instead, the union tries to reach out to the parents and see the importance of having quality teachers. They also encourage parent involvement in the process of selecting their school board.
In order for teachers to remain in business in North Carolina, Teachers Association has set up several guidelines. These guidelines ensure that all teachers follow a professional attitude and act in an orderly fashion. If a teacher violates the guidelines, there are numerous penalties, including suspension without pay. Also, if the teacher teaches in a school district under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Education, then the teacher may be required to resign. Also, if the teacher is found to have violated the guidelines, then the North Carolina Teachers Association has to provide notice before any disciplinary action can be taken.
Some other nonprofit organizations and individuals benefit from the teachers union. Often when a new teacher moves into a new district, the political connections they have developed before can make them immune to outside influence. Often they will not have any say in the choice of curriculum or teaching method. Also, the school district may pick the teachers who are the most politically correct and agree with the union’s positions. This makes it very difficult for the teachers to choose a teaching method that they feel is best for the students. The North Carolina Teachers Association tries to maintain and improve academic standards in public schools. They also strive to provide the best learning environment possible for their teachers and students.
