The ASB elections are coming up soon. This article is to inform you about what ASB elections are, how the process works, and why it’s crucial for students to vote.
What are ASB elections?
ASB stands for Associated Student Body which is a student-led organization that has been around since 1894. The ASB holds specific power over the school, so it’s vital that they have people who will represent them well in office.
Who can run?
Any registered LHS student with an attendance rate of at least 95% can apply to run as long as they fill out all of the necessary paperwork before February 28th. No one under the age of 16 will be able to run as of 2018.
How does voting work?
To vote, simply go to ASB-elections.com and fill out the necessary information after you register your email address with a password for future use. Additionally, you can vote in the office as well as outside of school. There will be voting booths set up throughout our campuses, and each student will receive a ballot with all the available candidates’ names on them as well as their respective position they’re running for. At this time, you’ll fill out your vote by marking either “yes” or “no.” Students that win these positions then serve as representatives for all those who voted yes!
Why should you vote?
The ASB is an integral part of our schools and community, so we must have people who will be honest while they hold these seats to power. Who knows, maybe you’ll even run for a position someday!
Why should I care about ASB Elections?
It’s crucial for students to vote because they’re choosing people who are going to represent them in the office! Not only do they make decisions regarding student events/activities, but as mentioned earlier, they’re also in charge of representing students as a whole.
What are the benefits of these elections?
The elections are an excellent way for students who enjoy getting involved in school to gain experience and understand what it takes to be part of an organization like the ASB.
How can I become more involved during my high-school years?
As mentioned previously, if you’re interested in working alongside fellow peers as well as making a difference as part of an organization, now’s the time to get involved! Getting your name out there and attending events will allow you to make connections and potentially be considered for leadership positions.
If interested in running for office, what should I do?
First off, great choice! While many people think that politics are dull/uninteresting and not relevant to their personal lives, it’s crucial – especially at this age- that we can understand how decisions made by those who represent us affect our day-to-day living as students. Ask yourself why you won’t run for office & consider if being elected is something you’d find valuable within the school community.
To conclude, ASB elections are a great way to get involved as well as learn about how the school works and what you could potentially do as an elected official.
